Window Tint Aftercare: How to Maintain Your New Film

Protecting Your Investment: The First 30 Days

You just picked up your car from Extreme Tint. It looks incredible. But the installation process isn't technically finished yet. Window film requires a curing period, and how you treat your windows during this time dictates how long the film will last.

Rule #1: Do Not Roll Down Your Windows

This is the most critical rule. We apply window film using a specialized mounting solution. While we squeegee out as much moisture as possible, a microscopic layer remains. It takes 3 to 5 days for the film to fully adhere to the glass. If you roll down the windows before it cures, the weather stripping can catch the edge of the film and peel it right off. Leave them up!

The "Water Bubbles" Are Normal

During the first few days, you might notice small water pockets or a slightly hazy, cloudy look to the film. Do not panic, and absolutely do not poke or press on them. This is the remaining moisture evaporating through the porous film. In the summer, this clears up in a few days. In the Minnesota winter, it can take a few weeks. It will dry perfectly flat.

How to Clean Tinted Windows

Once the film is fully cured (wait at least a week), you can clean the inside of your windows. However, you must change your cleaning supplies:

• NO AMMONIA: Never use Windex or any cleaner containing ammonia. Ammonia breaks down the adhesive and causes the film to turn purple and peel.
• Use Safe Cleaners: Use a dedicated automotive glass cleaner (like Invisible Glass Automotive) or simply warm water with a tiny drop of baby shampoo.
• Microfiber Only: Ditch the paper towels. Use a clean, soft microfiber cloth to avoid scratching the scratch-resistant (but not scratch-proof) coating on the film.

Seatbelt Chips

Be careful when taking off your seatbelt. If you let it fly back, the metal buckle can hit the glass and chip the window film. This physical damage is not covered under warranty.
